MINISTRY OF WATER, LAND, AND NATURAL RESOURCES (KATS)
KATS is the ministry responsible for water, land, and natural resources management in Malaysia. Its functions include water management and sanitation services; management of land, surveying and mapping administration; conservation and management of biodiversity and shelters; and natural resources management.
On 2nd July 2018, The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) was restructured to form the KATS. The new ministry was formed from the amalgamation of the Land and Natural Resources components from NRE and the water sector from the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA). Meanwhile, the Climate Change Division and Department of Environment were transferred to the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology and Environment & Climate Change (MESTECC).
ASEAN CENTRE FOR BIODIVERSITY
The ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), established in 2005, is ASEAN’s response to the challenge of biodiversity loss. It is an intergovernmental organization that facilitates cooperation and coordination among the ten ASEAN Member States (AMS) and with regional and international organizations on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of such natural treasures.
